Alex and Bjorn were one of my first bookings last year although they are in fact my last wedding of the year. I was excited to see their venue as I wasn’t familiar with it at all…. It’s a little gem! Set on the edge of the Peak District the JG Graves Woodland Discovery Centre is the best of both worlds…. It’s a beautiful expansive woodland, with a log cabin style venue that overlooks the trees…. It’s worth a look!! Bjorn and Alex played this really cool!… I had messages explaining they were a little nervous!!.. WELL…. These two came ready to get stuck in! They made my job so easy breezy! They are sooo romantic and just beautifully, playfully in love. It was so charming to be in their company and have them trust me to be there, while they may have come with nerves, they certainly didn’t let them show! It’s so great to walk away from a shoot so energised!! I love how connected they are as a couple! I literally could have photographed them all day!

Katrina and Patrick are both from opposite ends of the country but have ended up in sunny Manchester!  I’m so lucky this year that in my first real season doing this I’ve met the best couples! All of them are people I’d be glad to sit and have a drink with and hang out with laughing and chatting. Katrina and Patrick are no exception. Katrina is bright and bouncy and gorgeously genuine, Patrick is interesting, calm and very athletic they make a very beautiful partnership. They were so sweet and I loved chatting away to them almost as much as I enjoyed photographing them. We had an early start as being a sporty pair they were keen to get back and watch the London marathon, that said we never felt under pressure from that and bobbed around Fletcher Moss, in Didsbury happily for an hour or two. It was a lovely, easygoing way to start the day!

Lindsey & Jay are in the process of moving back to the north from London.  To say it’s a busy time for them is perhaps understating the facts somewhat! They had apparently managed to arrive about five minutes before I met them at Lindseys mums house, straight off a Pendolino and into the pre wedding deep end!  Had that been me I’d have been in such a flap but these two were so calm under pressure.  A quick cup of tea and they were ready to go.  It was such a pleasure to photograph them and spend an hour chatting about all sorts.  They were so easygoing and despite being in the unusual situation of a  couples shoot they laughed and joked and kept things light and breezy! I’m really excited to photograph this wedding as we’re heading into Manchester… (An easy stop for friends coming from London…. super thoughtful couple!) Really excited and looking forward to the big day.

Not everyone loves having their picture taken. I’ll put my hands up and say I’m among that crowd, but imagine that’s you and instead of loafing in your pj’s/ hanging out with friends you get dragged out for a bit of “couples photography”…. this was Owen last Saturday! If there’s one girl you’d do it for it’s Ellie though. Ellie is special because she’s a good friend of my sisters. Over the summer when my sister got married she was the first up making confetti cones and the last to bed after stringing hundreds of lanterns. She’s super supportive and cares deeply for the people around her. All day she encouraged Owen and many a time I caught her trying to make him laugh and support him through. She’s a natural born nurturer which is perhaps why she’s so well placed within her own profession as a midwife. Owen and Ellie met in New York on what could have been called a blind date, but was sold to them as friends meeting up…. Well the rest became history when Owen set up the most beautiful candle lit proposal in their home and basically swept her off her feet… so much so when I asked Ellie if she said yes straight away, she really couldn’t remember what she’d said at the time…. it was obviously the right answer as their wedding is now round the corner, at the beginning of May. We met for their pre wedding shoot in Winchester on a busy Saturday at peak shopping time…. soooo we really searched for quiet little side streets and pretty riverside spots where they wouldn’t feel too watched. They endured the rain that came to slow us down and were such sports about it, particularly as Owen had no coat so really did get soaked. Really looking forward to catching up with them again at their barn venue in the Essex countryside, we’ve had the rain already so fingers crossed for glorious weather.

Anneka and Gareth are such an endearing couple. When I first met them last summer (feels like a long time ago after the wet Manchester winter!) I opened things by showing them one of my previous weddings. Within minutes, Gareth (who is very dry) looked at Anneka, did a semi roll of the eyes and said “she’s going to cry”. She looked sheepishly teary. He deals with her lovely gentle romantic ways with a healthy dollop of realism! They’re just a really well matched couple that level each other with the different things they bring to the table. Half way through this shoot I asked Anneka if she’d look at Gareth… “this is like when I try and watch telly” he said. She laughed and readily admitted that yep that’s exactly what she does. I just thought that was so gorgeous that she watches him while he watches telly, I love those moments when you feel ridiculously lucky…. I love as well that she didn’t want to hide it! Anneka is full of warmth and clearly adores her Gareth. While Gareth seems to casually abstain from über romantics, he quietly makes Anneka laugh and feel super comfortable in awkward situations like having a camera pointed at you and more than that despite very clearly stating the afternoon would be spent watching football, I think he quite liked hanging out with his beautiful bride to be. They’re getting married at the end of May when with any luck there will be leaves on the trees (rather than the ground) and sunshine in the sky.
